Out of Hand/Sierra Waldorf School Store is located at 189 S. Washington St. in downtown Sonora. Join us…locals, visitors, all!
Every Friday morning at 11AM a lovely crew gathers at downtown Sonora’s Out of Hand Pottery/ Sierra Waldorf School Store for a weekly “Sing Along & Story Time” for toddlers, babies and their families. And what a fun time we have!
We let the children and our immediate surroundings guide the program. Recently the fire engine whizzed by with sirens blaring, so we added a new verse to “The Wheels on the Bus.” It went something like this..“The fire truck goes whizzing by…WHIRR!”
We sing about learning to share, being with family and all those things that are familiar to toddlers. Since we live in the country, we sing lots of animal songs, do lots of nature fingerplays and strive to help the children make those early language connections that are based on what is familiar.
Always we include the passing of seasons and the weather as big anchors for our program content. This community outreach encourages families to sing and tell stories together as we focus on ways for parents to learn the songs, fingerplays and nursery rhymes. And one of the most satisfying hidden gifts of this program is the ways that parents hook up to build new friendships and new support. I love hearing the moms say, “Let’s go to the park together after story time.”
So, join us some Friday morning! You’ll have a good time, and you just might find a new friend for your child…and for yourself.
