I am home today preparing for the Auburn Winter Story Festival‘s Saturday 1PM workshop at General Gomez Arts & Events Center. I’ll be giving a 90-minute session called “Diving Into Storytelling,” that is intended to satisfy all levels of interest and experience. I am sweating a few bullets because I want to make it lively, fun and purposeful. We’ll be exploring the value of storytelling, a bit of tellers’ history, the tools of storytelling, story-crafting tips, and how to quickly learn a tale for telling. This should be an action-packed 90 minutes with lots of group and partner activities to illustrate and tap into new learning.
The “AWSF” committee, organized by the Foothill Storytellers’ Guild, has done an incredible job of pulling this event together in a “New York Minute.” They set out on this journey around October. That’s a pretty short time-line for such a festival. And the Auburn Winter Storytelling Festival is FREE to the public….The entire event! This is a true gift to the people of Placer and Nevada Counties. Hopefully everyone will have a chance to meet their hometown tellers, too.
On the stages will be nice handful of regional storytellers: Linda Kennedy, Joan McCammon, Tom Wade, Mike Tomson, Joan Stockbridge and moi. Plus there will be an Open Mic event AND a Liar’s Contest!
I hope to see some of you there! Then you’ll find out whether or not I got my homework done!
