About six weeks ago Jane Crouse, NSN’s Regional Director for the Mid-Atlantics and Co-Chair of NSN’s ArtForce (with Mary Hamilton), contacted me to ask if I’d put together a hand-out on arts advocacy for storytellers. So, here it is!
When she called, Jane was prepping for the National Storytelling Conference in Cincinnati, OH. We met last Summer at the Tejas Storytelling Association Conference, and had a great in-depth chat about advocacy and storytelling in arts education. So, I was very honored that she asked me to help out in this way. And since I wasn’t able to attend the conference, I saw this as a small way to make a contribution to my professional community.
I’ve been slowly plugging along with this work in our own Sierra Nevada region where I am the National Storytelling Network‘s state liaison for this part of California. Of course, this is one of those glorious volunteer jobs. But as a longtime teller who is also hoping to nurture a new generation of tellers, I’m glad to chip in for my national organization.
