One of California’s most long-standing storytelling guilds is the Southbay Storytellers and Listeners. Some of California’s best loved storytellers have been active members in this guild. This is a dynamic group of people, living in and around Silicon Valley who believe in the power of storytelling as a vital part of community.
This guild is also well known for the inventive and consistent programs that they offer. Their Winter Workshop and Swap Day is one that has been around for some year. I’ll be there having a grand time at the Palo Alto Friends Center on Colorado Ave. This year MaryGay Ducey, California’s true empress of story, is going to offer open coaching sessions. These sessions are invaluable to all! An audience gets to sit with the teller and the coach. We enjoy the story, and then we have the benefit of listening in on supportive coaching on how to improve and strengthen the story.
After lunch I’ve been invited to give a workshop! “Diving Down the Storyteller’s Well” will provide a quick overview of the art and history of storytelling. We’ll be involved in 90 minutes of chatter and active play.
I hope to see lots of dear story friends that day, and make some new ones, too!
