We’re happy to announce that the Underground Gold Mining Museum in Alleghany, CA, (aka UGMM) is now carrying our audio recording “Striking Up Gold Mountain Stories & Songs of the California Gold Rush.”
This little museum is located in remote Sierra County, along a ridge overlooking the Yuba River, about an hour’s drive from the quaint Gold Rush town, Nevada City, on The Golden Chain Highway 49.
UGMM exists to tell the stories of this unique place, and to help visitors discover this hidden part of California’s Gold Rush history. The underground story is both human and geological. On a visit to this museum, you’ll learn the stories that revolve around the lives of these miners. And you’ll begin to discover the amazing story of an ancient era when the core of the earth “bled” mineral wealth into the fault zones of California.
If you’re looking for a glorious Summer excursion in California’s mountains, take this route:
You’d be hard-pressed to find a more beautiful drive in our rugged mountains. So, while Summer is winding down, there is still time to see this remote corner the Sierra Nevada. Alleghany, CA: One of our state’s wild and woolly places!
